Welcome to POTROCS

POTROCS is a Tripoli affiliated prefecture #92 located in Amarillo, Texas. We currently have a membership of 90, with members holding Tripoli or NAR certificates from Level 1 to Level 3. The skills of our members range from beginner to expert. The Discovery Channel airs Rocket Challenge several times a year named . Rocket Challenge featured our Aurora project. Aurora was 20 foot tall, 8 inch's in diameter, and weighed 148 lbs at lift off. It was the first flight on a P motor at LDRS. It reached an altitude of 29,985 feet at Mach 2.3 in Argonia, Kansas which is still a site altitude record. You can find out more about Aurora by visiting the Photos section. POTROCS has twice hosted LDRS (Large Dangerous Rocket Ship) which attracts rocket enthusiast from around the world. We have affiliations with several high schools in the local area.

 We welcome all rocketeers from beginner to high power and research rockets. If you are new to rocketry we will be glad to assist you in getting involved in the greatest hobby in the world. Our launch site is located two and one half miles west of Wayside, Texas, on Wayside Road, approximately 35 miles southeast of Amarillo, Texas. The property consists of five and one half adjoining sections of flat pasture and farm land. Our primary launch pad site is located at 34-47' 44"Lat and 101-35'-40" Long, PNH Radial/DME PNH 161028. Our FAA waivers are 25,000 agl. standing, with waivers to 50,000 agl. from 2 to 4 pm CST, during our launches. Our launch site altitude is 3453'msl. We schedule both Commercial and Tripoli Research launches throughout the year. Please check the Launch Schedule for launch dates. We will keep you updated via the website should we plan to cancel a launch due to weather or road conditions. The latest update will be posted the morning of each launch.
